Was there a defining moment in your career?
During a clinical rotation in medical school, a patient pregnant with twins who shared a placenta lost one baby in her second trimester. She had to decide when to deliver the surviving baby — too early and the baby might not survive, too late and she risked losing both. She looked me in the eyes and asked, “What should I do?” All that came to me was that this was a question for God. In that moment it became clear: in this field I would be forced to find time for Him every day, to know what He wants of me and for those He is using me to serve. That is when I decided to become an obstetrician-gynecologist.
What do you do, in your own words?
I am a medical doctor whose goal is not to treat symptoms but to find and treat the underlying cause. I have always been a naturalist and have never been a fan of medications with long lists of side effects. Functional medicine gives me a root-cause approach with specialized labs that find what traditional labs often miss. NaProTechnology is specific to gynecologic health, with enormous benefit for menstrual disorders and infertility. Discovering the root cause of infertility allows patients to get pregnant naturally — and repeatedly, if desired — without extreme hormonal protocols or risking their life savings.
Would you choose the same profession again?
Yes. I would probably cry if I had to do it all over again — it was hard on so many levels — but I would find the strength. I truly believe I didn’t choose this career; God chose it for me. That purpose will never change.
How have you built such a strong reputation?
Every patient I care for is unique. Taking the time to treat each one as a whole, with the detail a proper workup needs, matters. One-to-one care — and patients referring their loved ones by word of mouth — means more than any marketing one can hire.
